Instruction from Wannes Goetschalckx (BE)
This was the most difficult instruction until now, I have to admit. Because it didn't instruct me to DO something, but to NOT TO DO something. As a usual i-phone and laptop addict, used to check my e-mails more often than twice a day and in constant communication through digital media, whatsapping, facebooking, even blogging now, ...., I was afraid I would fail.
Wannes Goetschalckx (Ghent, Belgium) wrote to me on his postcard:
„Hallo Max, here comes my instruction for you: For me, you don't have to especially DO or MAKE something. I would really like to see that you DON'T DO something. That you, for one day, do not use any artificial light sources, for example. Thus also no computer or mobile phone, and so on... It would be ideal to instead draw or read something... Have fun, success!“
Luckily, Gibraltar artist friend Alan Perez and his family invited me to spend the weekend in their house in Spain. So I decided to not check my e-mails, not do the blog, not open the computer, and so on... for one day! And I succeeded, and it was not so hard as I thought it would be. It was pleasant and relaxing. Will do this again, soon.
Now, returned to Gibraltar, and back to work, I have to answer a lot of e-mails, of course, but what could be more pleasant on a Sunday night than answering e-mails?! Also, I took a lot of photos after the day of no-phone passed...
Thank you, Wannes, your instruction helped me to think, to figure out things, and to really enjoy the weekend, communicating with real people.
As an image, I will post nothing now, except the postcard.
