Instruction from Elisabeth Sonneck (DE)
UPDATE:
Today, on the 2nd of October, I carried out the instruction on the square in front of City Hall, very central. I was watched by a few men sitting on the benches drinking beer and commenting the action.
I put an avocado seed in the empty circle in the middle.
Green and black are the complementary colors of red and white. And red and white are the colors of the Gibraltarian flag. In the middle of this flag are a castle and a key. I chose the avocado seed for the green and black that normally is around it, and because it reminds me of a fortress.
After the color field was layed out, I left the square and the wind took over.

„Dear Max, please: Collect pieces of green colour, and appr. double as much of black colour. Rests of things, shattered glass from bottles, plants... and then, on a public place, lay a field on the floor, and put into the empty circle in the middle one item, that you find exciting in relation to the field.“
Since I read the postcard instruction sent to me by Elisabeth Sonneck from Berlin, I find myself not only searching for blue (instruction by Bignia Wehrli), but also for green and black things. Gibraltar is totally consisting of these three colours now... It is amazing how much you see that is black and green, if your mind is set onto seeing black and green.
So, I carry a plastic bag with me all of the time, and while others take pictures of the sunset, I pick up a black (or green) thing on the side of the road, on the market place, on the rock, where ever. The collection looks messy and ugly by now, but I truly believe that in the end I can lay out a beautiful color field somewhere in public space, consisting of the daily throwaways. Thank you, Elisabeth!
I will update this post from time to time, especially when the work will be made – right now a photo of what I got already! Green and black stuff from Gibraltar.
